Chan Dal, also known as split chickpeas or split garbanzo beans, is one of the major pulses in India.

They are a rich source of protein, fat, fiber, calcium and iron.

They are used in different types of lentil curries (most common is dal tadka), curries, rasams and dishes.

They are usually soaked in water for a few hours before being cooked as lentils or with other vegetables, and are also used to make chutneys.
