Cinnamon essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the Cinnamomum zeylanicum tree, also known as Ceylon cinnamon or true cinnamon. Two types of essential oils are obtained: one from the leaves, which is milder, from yellow to light brown, and is most often used in aromatherapy; and the other from the bark, which is a darker brown color and is not commonly used in aromatherapy.
Cinnamon oil is soothing with strong antiseptic properties. When used in an aroma lamp, the oil helps relieve symptoms of colds and bronchitis and relieves depression.
Warnings: in its pure form, corrosive and irritating, in contact with the skin, allergies, skin burns and redness may occur. Do not use orally.
