The name ginger comes from a place called Gingi in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, and the Tamil word for ginger, inji-ver. The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the unpeeled or dried, ground roots of the plant. It is a warming oil and is especially good for fighting nausea.
Used in a diffuser or in an aroma lamp, this oil combats loneliness and depression, and its energizing properties make it a good aphrodisiac. Place a drop of oil on a handkerchief and inhale to control nausea. Diluted with massage oil, it can be used to relax and warm tight muscles.
The essential oil is not suitable for internal use. Do not use neat on the skin.
